Apple Now Lets Developers Increase iOS App Subscription Fees Without Requiring Users to Opt-in – Tech Times

Apple has been allowing third-party developers to impose a price hike on the app’s subscription fee. With that in mind, the users will be notified regarding the increased charge through the App Store. However, that’s not the case anymore.

A recent report says that the Cupertino giant will now let the app makers increase their chargers without the need to require the users to opt-in for confirmation.

Apple now allows the devs to impose iOS app price fee increases without your confirmation through a new policy.

As XDA Developers reported on Tuesday, May 17, the developers can now boost the subscription charges for their apps without any confirmation from the user.

Previously, we could remember that when a user ignores the prompt about the revamped pricing, the subscription for the application will halt.

Unfortunately, there will now be an automatic upcharge for the software even if you ignore it. It will take effect without you agreeing with it.

“Currently, when an auto-renewable subscription price is increased, subscribers must opt-in before the price increase is applied. The subscription doesn’t renew at the next billing period for subscribers who didn’t opt into the new price. This has led to some services being unintentionally interrupted for users and they must take steps to resubscribe within the app, from Settings on iPhone and iPad, or in the App Store on Mac,” Apple says.

According to the firm, this change is the unintentional interruptions that affect the original prompt service.

Although the iPhone maker will issue an alert regarding the subscription price increase in the apps, many people will see these notifications. This is why they pay more charges without them noticing the new changes.

Conditions for the Automated Price Hike

The tech titan says that there are specific conditions that fall on this feature. To be exact, the company shares that this price hike will not happen more than once per year.

Moreover, it should not exceed $5 on top. It should also not be higher than 50% of the subscription price.

On the brighter side, this could mean that the dangerous apps lurking on the App Store could no longer impose increased fees.

Although the customers won’t be notified anymore by the prompt, Apple tells them that they could still receive notifications on push alerts and emails, as well as through iOs, macOS, and iPadOS applications.

iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5

In another story from GSM Arena, the iPad creator has released the recent updates for the iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 devices.

This might be just a minor tweak, but still, you can visit some features that you want to explore. For instance, Apple Cash can now allow users to send and request money through the WAllet app.

There are also over 25 fixes for security bugs, not to mention the home automation issue.
