Apple has issued iOS 15.7 along with a warning to update now, as the new iPhone software fixes 11 security issues, one of which is already being used in attacks.
Security issues fixed in iOS 15.7 include a flaw in the Kernel that could allow an attacker to execute code. The issue, tracked as CVE-2022-32917, is already being used in attacks, according to Apple’s support page.
Apple says iOS 15.7 “provides important security updates” and is “recommended for all users.”
Apple’s release of iOS 15.7 comes just weeks after the iOS 15.6.1 emergency security update, which fixed two flaws that attackers were using in the wild.
Among the 11 issues fixed in iOS 15.7 were two more flaws in the Kernel as well as two in WebKit—the engine that powers the Safari browser—that could allow an adversary to execute code.
The iPhone maker does not give much detail about the issues fixed in iOS 15.7, to give people as much time as possible to update before attackers can get hold of the details. For this reason, we don’t know who the already exploited flaw targeted. This makes it important that you update to iOS 15.7 now.
“Kernel level flaws can be chained together with WebKit vulnerabilities to allow a potential attacker to remotely take over a victim’s device,” says independent security researcher Sean Wright. He advises updating “as soon as you can.”
